UFC lightweight, Thiago Tavares has been speaking about his upcoming fight at UFC Fight Night 20 on Monday night against Nik Lentz, saying he’s not looking for UFC gold… well not yet anyway.

Speaking to Tatame Magazine, Tavares said:

He does a little bit of everything. He trains on the team of Sean Sherk, Brock Lesnar...His focus is Wrestling, but I think that he exchanges well standing up, he likes to kick a lot. He will try to keep the fight standing up… On the last fight I fought a lot standing up, on the penultimate fight I was hit by a knockdown, so I think that he’ll try to take advantage of that and beat me, but I’m well prepared to beat him standing up… I’ll fight wherever he wants to.”

“I never fight thinking about the prize, but, when I fight, people knows what to wait from me. I never get in thinking about bonus, I think about the victory, only about the victory. Sometimes, the victory comes with a bonus, sometimes, even the defeat, but the important is that I’m doing my work the best way I can (laugh). The dedication will be given at the most.”

My expectation is to do four fights. I started in January and is quite possible to do four fights and go on. I came from victory and go on with four victories will be important, I’ll winning space. I’m thinking on one fight for time, I’m not thinking about no f… belt. My aim is Nik Lentz, then another fight in March and I’ll coming, step by step, up stairs.”

Tavares has been sidelined for almost a year through injury and is keen to continue his assault on the lightweight division. He was last seen at UFC 94 in January, defeating Manny Gamburyan via unanimous decision.
