WBC super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares (33-3-2, 14 KOs) is pulling out all the stops to be ready for his February 16 title defense against tricky lefty Jose Navarro (26-3, 12 KOs) on the big Pavlik-Taylor card in Las Vegas.
Word is unbeaten southpaw former WBA light flyweight world champion Koki Kameda (16-0, 11 KOs) is on a plane headed to Mexico right this moment to help Mijares prepare. Kameda is scheduled to land in Mexico City at 1:50PM, then board another plane to Torreon, which is next to Mijares' home base of Gomez Palacio.
Mijares and Kameda plan to spar two or three rounds on Monday and Tuesday at the Séptimo Round Gym, then do the same on Wendesday and Thursday at the Rochmar Gym. Mijares will travel to Monterrey on Friday to arrange his U.S. work visa and immediately return to his home turf to do the final touches on his physical preparation. Kameda will face ex-world champ Jose Lopez Bueno on March 22 in Chiba, Japan.
