Sources close to the situation are reporting that HBO and Showtime Networks could be going head to head with dual boxing cards on September 29. Sources are saying that plans are in motion for unified middleweight champion Jermain Taylor to defend his title against #1 contender Kelly Pavlik with HBO televising the fight on it’s "World Championship Boxing " series.
However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet because a venue for the fight has not been confirmed. Sources with HBO are saying that September 29 is the preferred date for them to televise this fight….
For their part, Showtime has an already confirmed fight and venue for the same night as they will televise the WBC heavyweight championship fight between champion Oleg Maskaev and #1 contender Sam Peter.
Yours truly is fortunate enough to have a Tivo/DVR: Digital Video Recorder in my possession and honestly it has been a lifesaver for me both as a journalist and as a boxing fan. However, in this age of rapid and at times unnecessary technology; I think it’s time people demand that the networks go back to the basics.
World title fights on broadcast television; different time slots and days for HBO and Showtime televised cards. If it were a little more accessible for people to watch boxing and this includes people who do not have access to cable or satellite television, maybe just maybe the sport wouldn’t be as ridiculed when it comes to how fights are televised.
