Toney back in win column!

Heavyweight James Toney (70-6-3, 43 KOs) returned to action on Thursday night, scoring a dull ten round split decision over Danny Batchelder (25-5-1, 12 KOs) at the HP Pavillion in San Jose. In a heavyweight version of Taylor-Judah, Toney won on two cards 98-92, 97-93. Batchelder prevailed 96-94 on the other card. The bout marked the 38-year-old Toney’s first fight since dropping two WBC elimination battles against Samuel Peter.

In another heavyweight matchup, unbeaten Teke Oruh (14-0, 6 KOs) scored a six-round majority decision over Jason Gavern (11-3-2, 5 KOs). Scores were 57-55, 57-55, 56-56.
