Tamura avenges loss to Inoue, wins Shooto lightweight title
Akitoshi Tamura captured the Shooto 143-pound title on Friday night at the Korakuen Hall by winning a unanimous decision over Takeshi “Lion” Inoue.
The twenty-six-year-old Tamura won 30-27, 30-27 and 30-28 on the scorecards by controlling Inoue on the ground and limiting his offense to two fruitless submission attempts in three rounds.
With the victory, Tamura adds the Shooto world title to his Shooto Pacific Rim title he won in February 2007 against Tenkei Fujimiya, and avenges his November 2005 majority decision loss to Inoue.
Tamura improved his record to 11-5-2 and Inoue's record fell to 12-2.
Antonio Carvalho defeated TKO featherweight champion Hatsu Hioki by split decision to become the number one contender for the Shooto world 143-pound title.
One judge scored the bout 30-29 for Hioki, while the other judges scored the bout 29-28 for Carvalho.
