Tommy Morrison believes he knows why he failed HIV Test
In a recent interview by Chuck Johnson and published in USA Today, Tommy Morrison told the publication that he never had HIV and he believes a false positive for the virus that sidelined his boxing career for more than 10 years can be blamed on his steroid use at the time.
Because of a blood test that came back positive for HIV, Morrison was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 1996. His license was given back recently after clearing tests to prove he did not have HIV.
"I never had it in the first place," said Morrison in USA Today "I was kicked to the curb and lost more than 10 years of my career because of a false positive."
Morrison blamed steroids on the test results, saying: "I was using steroids at the time. I believe that's why the test came back the way it did. But I've taken five or six different tests in the last three or four months and I passed them all."
