In an effort to ascertain the status of writer and director Jesse Baget’s EL MASCARADO MASSACRE (see item here), Fango caught up with the creator of the wrestling/slasher hybrid, who informs us that the feature has undergone a third (disappointing, in this writer’s opinion) name change. “It’s been apparently officially renamed WRESTLEMANIAC,” Baget tells us of the flick (initially titled THE MEXICAN PORN MASSACRE), which he shot last year in southern California.
Starring WWE personality Leyla Milani, Adam Huss, Jeremy Radin, Margeret Scarborough, Catherine Wreford, Zack Bennett and Irwin (HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES) Keyes, WRESTLEMANIAC documents the travails of an amateur adult film crew who run afoul of the homicidal “El Mascarado” (professional wrestler Rey Misterio) while shooting a blue movie in an “abandoned” south-of-the-border town. Having premiered last October at the Hollywood Film Festival (the director was on hand to pass out luchador masks to the audience), the flick will now play as part of the 2007 AFI Film Festival in Dallas at the end of this month. “There are going to be two screenings,” says Baget. “One on Friday, March 30 at midnight and the other on Saturday, March 31 at 9:45 p.m., and I’m thrilled that WRESTLEMANIAC will be part of the festival. I’m hoping that the lucha scene is big in Dallas and we have a great turnout!”
To be part of that turnout and to lend your support to this gleefully entertaining flick, click here; tickets are available on-line for only $8.50. As for distribution, plans for the film’s release Stateside are anyone’s guess, although UK fans will see it on DVD April 30 via Revolver Entertainment Ltd., which releases the movie under its original MEXICAN PORN MASSACRE moniker. Have a look at the film’s Myspace page and trailer—both of which still sport the MASCARADO title).
