This weekend will be an extremely busy weekend for the true hardcore boxing enthusiast. With five televised fight cards in forty-eight hours. All the action gets underway tonight with ESPN 2’S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS featuring former IBF featherweight champion Eric Aiken in action.
At 9pm tonight, the first of what will be two pay-per-view cards over the weekend will take place "Erin Go Brawl" is the title of the card taking place that the theatre at Madison Square Garden. The main event will be an anticipated slugfest between popular undefeated brawler John Duddy vs. tough veteran Tony Bonsante of "The Contender" series
Duddy vs. Bonsante is available on a pay-per-view basis on all cable and satellite providers for a suggested retail price of $24.95.
The action continues on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of an all out war from 2006, unified Crusierweight champion O’Neil Bell will face off with former champion Jean-Marc Mormeck in the hometown of Mormeck, Paris, France.
Initially, it was believed that there were not be any U.S television for this bout however, a late development this week when MSG Network was granted the television rights for the fight. If you live outside the New York area, MSG Network is available on DirecTV channel 621. If you do not subscribe to DirecTV call your local cable or satellite provider.
Bell-Mormeck 2 will be broadcast live at 4pm on MSG Network, they will replay the fight in it’s entirety at Midnight.
The action continues at 9pm on pay-per-view the highly anticipated WBC Jr. Lightweight Championship fight between champion Marco-Antonio Barrera and former IBF/WBA Featherweight champion Juan-Manuel Marquez will finally take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vagas.
Barrera vs. Marquez is available on a pay-per-view basis on all major cable and satellite providers for a suggested retail price of $44.95.
Finally, the action-packed weekend will close with former five-time world champion, former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield in the third fight of his comeback taking on rugged contender Vinny Madalone of Queens, New York.
There was much confusion surrounding the television rights for this fight as it was advertised to be broadcast on a special edition of Fox Sports’ "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" Other sources have said that the fight would only be available on select Comcast Cable systems across the country on regional Comcast channel CN8.
In a late development, Sportsnet New York (SNY) will also be televising the fight live. If you are outside the New York area and do not subscribe to any Comcast cable systems SNY is available on DirecTV on channel 625. If you do not subscribe to DirecTV call your local cable or satellite provider.
Holyfield-Madalone takes place at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Live televised action begins at 10pm with former world title challenger Calvin Brock in his first fight after losing in a title bid to current IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
An observation, it is blatantly unfair of promoters to schedule so many worth while fights within a forty-eight hour period. Even in today’s age of Internet television and such the aspect of a true hardcore fight fan without a major Cable outlet or a major satellite provider to watch all of these bouts is frankly impossible.
If you fans don’t have Tivo or an equal to Tivo Digital Video Recorder (DVR) you are unfortunately out of luck in order to see all of these fights as they happen. Yet another example of grandstanding by promoters trying to get the bulk of the audience. Only in Boxing…
